Sub-head 12.--Miscellaneous, $15,000.--This vote is to provide funds for the various small improvements that are found to be necessary for all Government Departments during the course of the year.

13.—Water Works, $10,000. To provide for new water mains, fixing
hydrants, clearing conduits and miscellaneous minor works.
14.—Port Works, $5,000.-This vote is for preliminary investigations such as taking soundings and borings, and diving operations in connection with the new and proposed harbour works,
COMMUNICATIONS.
15. Road connecting Garden Road and Bowen Road with May Road,
$5,000. Retention Money This work completes the 1st section of widening existing roads for motor traffic and thereby linking up the mid-levels with the City for this class of traffic.
16.-Road from Causeway Bay to Quarry Bay, Section 70 feet wide, opposite M.L.'s 430 and 431, $2,000.—Retention money. This section of the Road 70 ft. wide by 1,000 ft. in length had to be completed to allow of the development of these lots.
17. Tai Hang Road construction, strengthening conduit, $40,000 –For strengthening the conduit from the junction of Stubbs Road to the Tunnel face. Until this is done the road cannot be opened for heavy vehicular traffic.
MISCELLANEOUS.
18.-Chinese Cemeteries, laying out new areas, $6,000.-This vote is neces- sary for forming additional extensions to the existing cemeteries for burial purposes.
19.-Government Quarry, Tsat Tsz Mui, installation of modern asphalt and screening plants, $18,000.--This vote provides for the installation of new plant to replace the existing obsolete and worn out machinery. 20.--Playing Fields, preparing areas recommended by Committee as such
may be approved, $5,000.-On account.
21-Renewing electrical wiring in Government Buildings, $20,000. —TEC electrical wiring in many Government buildings is not considered to be in a safe condition and requires renewing at an early date. 22.-Reinstatement of Governarent Retaining Walls, $5,000. To provide for the reconstruction of Government retaining walls where found necessary.
23.-Mental Hospital, provision of Geysers, $1,500.--The Medical Depart- ment consider the provision of hot water geysers for this institution to be essential.
24.-Garage at Arbuthnot Road, $5,000.---This comprises a block of 4 single garages in Arbuthnot Road for the use of the Prison Staff.
WATER WORKS.
25. --North Point Balance Tank, $20,000,--To complete. This work will result in improving the Water Supply to the Shaukiwan district. 26,--New Principal Mains in City. $20,000, —To meet increasing consump-
tion. It is necessary to extend the larger distributing mains.

28.-Relaying Water Main along new alignment from Eastern Filter Beds to Village Road, Wong Nei Chung, $15,000.-The development at Wong- neichung necessitates the removal of the temporary water mains, which at present crosses the area to be built upon to their permanent position.
PORT WORKS.
29. Ferry Piers (Western), $20,000. To complete. This work is in con- nection with the construction of a new pier for the Eastern ferries services.
30.--Construction of rubble mound at North Point to retain materials dump- cd, $20,000.-To be completed in 1932. This work will prevent the silting up of the harbour,
31.-Reclamation of S. W. corner of Causeway Bay for road widening. $500.-Retention money. This work was completed in 1930.
PUBLIC HEALTH AND BUILDINGS ORDINANCE.
32.-Various Resumptions for Road widening scheme approved by Govern
ment as rebuilding occurs. $10,000.---As the demolition of old build- ings takes place advantage is taken to resume portions of property required to permit of road widening. This vote provides the neces sary funds for this purpose.
33.-Resumption of R. N. Canteen an M.L. 65 Sec. B. $77,045,-Com- pensation for buildings on M... 4i5 sec. B (to be paid under agreement in 4 half yearly instalments) in connection with the Praya East Reclama- tion.
34.-Sailors' Home, West Point. M.L. 187«, $180,000.-3rd instalment of compensation money for purchase of M.L. 187A in connection with the removal of the Home to a new site.
35.--Compensation for old buildings required to be remored in order to carry out Arsenal Street improvements, $30,000.--Connected with the Praya East Reclamation layout.

36.-Hung Hom Government Store, $2,000,---This site has been prepared for the New Government store building-building plans for which are in preparation.
37.-Kowloon Hospital, Maternity Block, $100,000. The site is being pre- The pared and it is hoped to start building before the end of 1930. building will be a two storey block containing Ward accommodation. for 6 first class, 4 second class and 24 third class patients together with Duty Rooms, Baths, Kitchens etc.
